This week’s employee spotlight highlights Michelle Schuckman, our Social Media Specialist. Michelle joined Vervocity in 2015 and has been a valuable part of our team ever since. Let’s take a look at her inside scoop on social media advice, daily life, and passion for projects.
Why is social media important for businesses?
It’s important for businesses to connect with their customers and potential customers in a human way. They are on social media and you should be too. The average person spends two hours and twenty-seven minutes on social media daily. Marketers should use their social media tools to provide an authentic and personal voice for their brand.
What is your favorite part about working with social media?
I love making a difference in people’s lives. Through social media posts I am able to help people make appointments, answer questions, and change their day just through an interaction. It’s really all about communication and I’ve got that customer service bug!
What are some common social media goals that businesses should consider?
Set smart goals … specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely goals. Just start with a handful of goals like tracking followers month over month and use the findings to build a future for your pages. Next identify the right social media platforms for your business. Every social network is not a fit, so start with platforms that make the most sense for your business. Save yourself time and avoid becoming overwhelmed by your content calendar. Establish a voice for your different accounts.
If you’re struggling, consider your brand’s values and mission. Are you formal and serious, or more relatable and friendly? As a busy business owner, another helpful tip is to practice content batching. It’s a productivity technique where you create multiple captions, photos, and videos during a set period of time. Once you’ve written your content, consider using a scheduling tool like Hootsuite or Later to schedule it to go out at optimal times.
What social media advice would you give those business owners struggling to reach their goals?
One way to overcome not having enough money and people to maintain your social media presence is to partner with influencers who can help promote your brand for you. Find someone in your online community that has a positive voice and a big following. Let them spread your message and tag you in some posts to get the word out.
You can also delegate posting to your team if you feel they have the skills to stick to your strategy. This means you all have to be on the same page. You’d be surprised at what everyone will bring to the table!
What are other types of projects you’ve worked on for clients?
I am also a graphic designer, so I’ve worked on brochures, newspaper ads, display ads, logos, banners, and much more.
What does an average workday look like for you?
I spend at least some part of my day on social media work. I make sure that posts are going out as scheduled, that engagement is on point, and that I’m aware of my metrics so I know what is working and what isn’t.
What do you like most about working at Vervocity?
I love that each day is different and I have new and exciting things to work on for our clients every day.
What advice do you wish you could tell your younger self?
Have patience. Don’t be in a hurry. Success will come with hard work!
What is a fun fact about yourself not related to Vervocity?
I love music and art. Throw a few funny memes in there and you’ve got my attention!
What are your hobbies?
I like to read and crochet. Keeps me off social media after hours because you know we all need a break!
What would you say to potential clients considering social media management or marketing?
It will be the best decision you’ll ever make! As your social media specialist, I’m on your side through all the posts and decisions for your business. I can help you find your voice and generate all the content you need. I’m there as a resource to you.
