Let’s Get Digital this week with our next employee spotlight – Lisa Novinger. Our Let’s Get Digital segment features staff members from different departments around the office. Teamwork makes the dream work, and our employees know how to get the job done!

Lisa joined the Vervocity team in 2018 and has been designing accessible, user-focused websites ever since. She does exceptionally well at turning ideas and concepts into a final design that’s unique to each client’s branding, mission, and goals.

Let’s explore Lisa’s passion for website design and discover what it means to be a web designer/developer.

1. What inspired you to be a website designer?

I’ve always been drawn to creativity and problem-solving, and website design allows me to combine both. Crafting well-designed websites makes information accessible and engaging and ultimately aids businesses and organizations in achieving success in their respective fields.

2. What are some of the most common reasons clients need a new website?

Clients often need a new website because their current one is outdated, doesn’t reflect their brand effectively, isn’t mobile-friendly, or lacks essential features like e-commerce functionality or search engine optimization.

3. How do you ensure each client’s website is unique?

To ensure each client’s website is unique, I start by understanding their brand, target audience, and goals. The design, content, and features are then tailored to meet their specific needs and differentiate them from their competitors.

4. Are there any features you think every website should have?

Every website should have clear navigation, responsive design for mobile devices, fast loading times, clear calls to action, and strong security measures. Key pages for every website include an About page, Products or Services pages and a Contact page with a contact form. Additionally, features like links to social media pages, search engine optimization, and analytics tracking are essential for user engagement and business growth.

5. What’s the one trend in web design you’re secretly glad isn’t used as often?

I’m secretly glad that overly flashy animations and cluttered layouts are becoming less common. While they might initially catch attention, they can distract users from the content and make the website harder to navigate.

6. What does an average workday look like for you?

An average workday typically involves a mix of tasks like meeting with clients to discuss project requirements, designing websites, coding and implementing website features, developing website structures, and testing for bugs and usability issues.

7. What do you like most about working at Vervocity?

The thing I like most about working at Vervocity is the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients across different industries. It keeps things interesting and allows me to continuously learn and grow as a designer.

8. What advice would you give to someone interested in a career in website design?

My advice for someone interested in a career in website design would be to start by learning the fundamentals of design, HTML, and CSS. Practice by building your own projects and seeking feedback from peers. Stay updated on industry trends and technologies, and consider pursuing formal education or continuing education certifications to enhance your skills and credibility. The experience of an internship can be invaluable for practical learning and industry exposure.

9. What is a fun fact about yourself?

I’m a proud mom of three amazing kids! Balancing the demands of parenthood with my career keeps life busy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Every day is an adventure filled with love, laughter, and plenty of joy.

10. What would you say to potential clients interested in hiring an agency for professional website design?

To potential clients interested in hiring an agency for professional website design, I would say that investing in a well-designed website is essential for establishing credibility, attracting customers, and achieving business goals. By working with a reputable agency like Vervocity, you can benefit from our expertise, creativity, and personalized approach to ensure your website stands out and delivers results.
